The Bandarban Sadar Area Programme, launched in October 2020 with the support from World Vision Bangladesh, aims to improve child well-being in the remote, ethnically diverse hilly region of Bandarban Sadar Upazila. Targeting the most vulnerable children and families, the programme focuses on health, nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, and child protection.
The development of the Area Programme followed the LEAP 3 standards, with an extensive and inclusive design process involving local stakeholders, community members, and government representatives.
The programme addresses key community-identified priorities: lack of safe water and nutrition awareness, economic hardship, poor access to quality education, limited market opportunities, and the absence of a child-friendly social environment.
To tackle these issues, the programme is implementing three technical components: Livelihoods, Health, Nutrition and WASH, and Community Engagement and Sponsorship Plan (CESP). Interventions include income-generating activities for ultra-poor families, maternal and child health initiatives, improved water and sanitation facilities, and child protection efforts.
An innovative feature of the programme is the planned development of “model villages” that demonstrate holistic, community-led development. Overall, the Bandarban Sadar AP aims to build resilient communities by promoting sustainable livelihoods, ensuring child protection, and improving access to essential services.
